Phonics and Reading

Students learn to appreciate storytelling as an art form through books, felt board, puppets, oration with props.

Students listen to stories and respond to them with questions and comments.

Students make connections between own experiences and those of story characters and share those experiences.

Students develop imagination, sense of wonder and a personal point of view.

Students develop awareness of other people and places and expand to role playing with classmates.

Students respond to familiar and predictable language patterns by joining in or using choral response and extend their vocabulary and develop pre-reading skills.
