Sophie’s Message

Do you remember what it was like to be a child? Now that we have our own children, we are reminded to dream, to be creative, be free to play and have fun. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful children, parents and teachers and look forward to every joyful milestone. Every day the excitement on the children’s faces warms my heart as they embrace learning, triumph over challenges and make new discoveries.  It is with a great sense of fulfillment that I share in their stories and ideas, their efforts and their achievements.

Children play and play remarkably brings us all together. Play is natural, active, and highly motivating. To children it is the ideal approach to their personal growth and positive learning. We know that children are the masters of play; they play the most and are most influenced by play.  Their play is both serious business and pure fun. At its heart, it signifies nothing less than how they will be in this world. Children are naturally creative because they do not have any preconceived notions that their world might be seen or acted out in a certain preset or narrow way. We have so much to learn from them and seeing the world through their eyes is truly enlightening.

At Ridley Orchard School we encourage you to “Be part of the Discovery.” Children are natural adventures, discoverers and inventors. They naturally flourish in a flexible yet predictable program, which commends their innovations and ingenuity. Children’s efforts, abilities and individualities are supported in a caring, safe and nurturing environment. They are encouraged to prevail over challenges, take acceptable risks, develop healthy levels of compromise and work out differences in an atmosphere of mutual respect while strengthening self-esteem and autonomy.  We support self-initiated methods of working out problems with cooperation and understanding, which foster trust and maturity.

My hope is to encourage every child’s refreshing visions to continue to grow and to facilitate the freedom for their creative endeavors through open-ended play activities. In our school children are free to explore their creativity, gain experience in working out solutions to their problems and have their discoveries encouraged and supported. You are invited to join us and “Be Part of the Discovery.” Curiosity, creativity and originality of thought are the building blocks of our future.

Albert Einstein said, “The formation of a problem is often more essential than its solution, which may be merely a matter of mathematical or experimental skill. To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, require creative imagination and marks real advances.”
