Learning Objective

Ridley Orchard School is a facilitator in children’s early learning experiences, supporting each child’s optimal potential in their developmental domains and learning styles and encourages their responsible participation and success in a global society. 

Ridley Orchard School provides a secure, child-focused and stimulating environment where children’s inherent curiosity motivates them to explore and discover a variety of play and learn centers which support their social, emotional, language, cognitive, creative and physical development.  We offer an enriched progressive curriculum, which challenges and empowers children. Children need hands on active experiences with real objects and events before they are ready to understand the meaning of symbols such as letters and numbers. Learning takes place as young children touch, manipulate and experiment with things and interact with people. Children’s activities focus on the process of learning; therefore, the emphasis is on the experiences of the children rather than the results or products of those experiences. We help nurture each child’s possibilities; days are filled with structured and spontaneous moments of learning; through active and quiet open-ended cognitive play, imaginative games, independent discovery, group and individual time. Learning experiences emerge both in a natural indoor and outdoor learning environment.

In a developmentally supportive atmosphere, young children benefit from the opportunity to play and learn alongside their peers developing their social, emotional, language, cognitive, physical and creative skills. Children develop within a curriculum, specifically adapted to their individual aptitude and learning styles; supporting their independence, self-esteem, imagination, sense of adventure, inquisitiveness, reasoning skills and critical thinking.

The Core Curriculum includes; educational circles, drama and role-playing, creative and sensory projects, science and nature, math, music and gym, ‘Letterland’ and ‘Handwriting without Tears’; innovative early phonetic, reading and writing programs.  

Extra Curricular programs such as French and the Canadian Mosaic, musical instruments including Mystic Drumz, dance including jazz and hip hop, sports and exercise including yoga, gymnastics, karate and soccer, animals including Reptilia and Whimz, pottery and sculpting.

School Program Ages

  • Toddler Program; students are 1½ years old as of starting month
  • Pre-school Program; students are 2 ½ years old as of starting month  
  • Pre-kindergarten Program; students are 3 years old as of starting month
  • Junior Kindergarten Enrichment Program; students are 4 years old as of starting year
  • Senior Kindergarten Enrichment Program; students 5 years old as of starting year 

School Program Hours  

    • Full-day hours are 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.
    • ¾ – day hours are 9:00 am – 1:45 pm.
    • ½ – day morning hours are 9:00 am – 11:30 am.
    • ½ – day afternoon hours are 12:45 pm – 3:00pm.
    • The Lunch Program is 11:30 am to 12:45 pm.
    • Extended hours are ½ hour before program starts and/or ½ hour after program finishes.
    • 4-day program is any 4 day combination available
    • 3-day program is any 3 day combination available
    • 2-day program is any 2 day combination available

Summer Camp available in July and August.

Weekly “Program Plans” outline school daily activities and learning objectives.

Monthly “Newsletters and Calendars” inform parents of upcoming themes, events, topics of interest, birthdays, holidays, special occurrences and school news. Parents are invited to contribute relevant news items to these newsletters and actively participate in monthly events.

Yearly “Calendar of Events” informs parents, in advance, of all school holidays, events and interests on an annual scale.

“Individual Student Education Plans” and “Progress Report Cards” are developed, implemented and evaluated for each child.
